Hello, aspiring guitarists! I'm Jon Chorba, your dedicated guide on an exciting journey into the world of guitar playing. With over 14 years of experience teaching over 20,000 private guitar lessons to students of all ages, there is not one goal or challenge that I haven't seen and solved.
My educational background includes extensive training in various guitar styles and music theory, combined with real-world experience performing and composing.
What I love most about teaching guitar is witnessing the "lightbulb" moments in students. I know intimately well how hard and frustrating guitar could be. When I watch the lightbulb come on for a student and they "get it" nothing makes me happier!
What sets me apart is that I don't teach from a method book where every student gets the same lessons in the same order.
My philosophy is always to teach the student based on YOUR goals and YOUR challenges.

I first picked up a guitar in 1961 and learned to play from books and friends. I’ve continued to play ever since, mostly by myself with little knowledge of the fretboard or music basics. Essentially, I did not improve for 60 years.
Enter Jon Chorba.
I found Jon on an internet search. His new student offer was fair to both of us. On our first meeting, I presented a list of things that I wanted to learn. Among these I wanted a foundation in music theory, basic strumming and picking skills. I wanted to make friends with the entire fretboard from nut to the soundhole and play up and down the neck on breaks and solos.
It was obvious from Jon’s excitement as I went through my list of goals that I had picked a good teacher. As a person, Jon is open and friendly. As a teacher he is knowledgable, professional and patient. He listens very carefully to his students and understands not only what they say, but also the nuances of what they can’t quite express. He has the gift of leading students to lead themselves.
Before Jon left Texas I had accomplished my goals and had begun on new ones. I’ve kept up Jon’s daily practice routines. Recently, I joined a Bluegrass Music club and am playing regularly with others and utilizing skills I would never have attained without my time with Jon.
I also have a far deeper understanding and love for the guitar than I had before I started lessons. I find a renewed excitement in music as I draw lovely sounds out of my guitars from places that I never explored before. I have greater confidence in my playing. My untutored friends are envious. Lessons can open up a whole new world for the youngest student or even old dogs like me.

Jon met me where I was and worked a plan with me to rapidly accelerate my lead guitar skills and understanding of the musical theory behind what I was doing. This knowledge and skill development allowed me to go places I had never imagined I would be able to go with my playing. I simply cannot say enough about Jons ability to teach, coach and encourage.

Jon is an excellent teacher. What I appreciate most is that he takes time to teach you HOW TO LEARN guitar. With enough time, I suppose any teacher can show you how to play a song or a chord. Jon teaches you how to practice and how to learn guitar. He can accurately troubleshoot in an instant. Hes also patient and offers really insightful, helpful information that comes only from a teacher with lots of experience.
