About
Greetings! My name is Stan Munslow and I own The Stan Munslow Studio, located in Coventry, RI.
I hold a B.M. degree from Berklee College of Music and I've been teaching students of all ages, full-time, since 1982.
Over the years, I have taught in schools, adult ed centers, music stores, and even in books and audiobooks. From 1996 on, I have taught exclusively at my own studio.
If you are interested in learning to play a musical instrument, I can help you (or your child) get there with instruction that is gentle, easygoing, encouraging, effective, and fun.
I use no one-size-fits-all "methods." Lessons are individually tailored to your (or your child's) own interests, abilities, and learning style.
For example, I teach many of my students their favorite songs right from the recordings so that they can play right along with them. Others might focus on blues improvisation, vocal accompaniment, songwriting, or professional enhancement.
My studio is spacious, well-appointed, and quiet. Unlike stores and multiples son facilities, there are no other lessons on the premises. You can concentrate better and learn more. There is plenty of room for parents and siblings to sit in, if preferred. You can even take lessons with a friend or family member.
I am also an author and I have written many books and audio books on music and performance.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin with each new student by determining not only what type of music he or she may be most interested in, but how they learn best. Some students work best with a very traditional approach, others with a more contemporary approach that would rely more on playing by ear or with chord symbols or improvisation.
Bright from the start students would be playing real music that they recognize. It's all about songs. I want them to love what they do and to play what they love.
As time goes on, students often begin to Branch out Beyond simply reading and playing written music. This may include songwriting, improvisation, learning songs by ear, or playing along with their favorite recordings.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 35 years experience as a full-time music instructor of guitar, piano, voice, songwriting, your training, improvisation, and performance. I hold a bachelor of music degree from Berklee College of Music where I graduated in 1981. I am also a member of the Modern Music Masters Society of America.
