My wife Mellie and teach, sing and play professionally and I have a guitar teacher that also teaches bass guitar.
i have been playing drums, congas, singing. and songwriting for for over 50 years. I also have a recording studio and worked as a recording session drummer for over 40 years. I have studied music and music production at the University of South Carolina and at Fullsail University.
I love Teaching and passing on my experience.
My name is Tony Torre.
I have been playing drums since the age of three.
I’ve played with Percy Sledge, Mary Wells, the Platters, the Drifters, G. C. Cameron (lead singer for the Spinners/Temptations, the Rick Strickland Band, many, many blues bands.
I also have a big band the Tony Torre Orchestra, and a Dixieland band , the Twin Cities Dixieland Jazz Band.
I worked as a session drummer/singer/songwriter for 25 years. I endorse Vic Firth, Roc-n-Soc, Humes and Berg, Earthtone Drumheads, and Peavey Elec.

I am predominantly a groove drummer because I feel that’s what a Drummer’s role 99% of the time.
I also teach/tutor singing and playing drums/congas simultaneously, basic piano theory, recording/programming music on DAWs.
I own a recording studio in Columbia,S.C.
I studied music at the Univ. of S.C. and music production at Full Sail University.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to talk with prospective and current students about their experience, background, interests, what they want to learn to assess their experience level, to decide my approach to teaching them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Computer and Music, Music Theory, Sight Singing Ear Training at the University of S.C.
Computer and Music Production and theory at Fullsail University.
Playing in professional major recording bands and artists.

I charge $45.00 per hour, but at this time my price is negotiable because of the covid19 situation.
How did you get started teaching?
My father was a well known big band drummer and band manager in New York City in the 1940s.
He taught private lessons there and in Columbia SC.
He taught me his approach to teaching. Over the years I combined his approach along with my own.
What types of students have you worked with?
Younger and Older students that have to really want to learn and be willing to practice.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Talk with many and hire the one you feel you're the most comfortable talking with.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What and how the teacher is going to teach them to get them where they want to go musically.
