My teaching approach:I believe that guitar lessons should be student focused & fun. I strive to help students build a sound musical foundation from which they may reach their own goals. At the heart of my teaching philosophy is this axiom: Motivation is foremost in education- and with the proper attitude a student can overcome almost any obstacle.My influences are:I grew up here in Greenville and began playing guitar at the age of 11. Since then I have studied jazz, classical, rock and flamenco guitar. I am a graduate of the Greenville Fine Arts Center, the SC Governor's School of the Arts. I hold a Bachelors degree in jazz guitar performance from the College of Charleston and I am nearing completion of a masters degree at Converse College.My guitar lessons take place in:The student's homeGuitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas:Greenville AreaGuitar Techniques:Song Writing, Guidance In Equipment Selection, Fingerstyle, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Lead guitarYour first guitar lesson with me might include the following:All students begin by listing songs, artists, and styles that they are interested in. From there we develop a list of goals that are unique to that student such as: strumming & singing taylor swift songs, improvising jazz or blues solos, or playing fingerstyle arrangements of your favorite Beatles songs. Finally, we develop a plan to achieve those goals and we begin workingA guitar lesson with me might entail the following:Students use a notebook to keep up with their goals and all the elements necessary to accomplish them such as songs, chords, scales, and exercises. Each week we evaluate our progress and redirect if necessary (these are your goals after all)The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:Anyone who is open minded, determined, and laughs at my jokes.
