About

Personal touch. I treat them as individuals not a number.

I love what I do. By the time I was 16 I had 10 years of piano lessons. I started teaching in Dayton Ohio when I was a kid my self with six children ages 5-8.

I love it now more than ever. Not too many people say they enjoy going to work......but I do!!! Smile!!

Frequently asked questions

That depends on whether they have had some training or not.

If they have never had any lessons than I have a set scenario of learning the keyboard and reading notes on the first lesson. If they have had training then I have a different scenario in which I ask questions, show them some different music levels or/and have them possibly play for me so that I can determine which books we should use and what would be the most beneficial for them personally.

I had 10 years of piano at a small private institute run by Sarah Hitchcock in Dayton Ohio. This was during the middle 1950's to 1960's. In addition I had four years of trumpet, 2 Years of Bass Fiddle and one year of tap. But I do not currently teach tap - Smile!

My normal arrangement is as follows:

Once a week -30-minutes long - $80.00 per month.(This would be for four lessons.

Twice a week -30-minutes long each - or once a week for a full hour. (Whatever the customer prefers) There is a small discount and it would be $150.00 per month.

Multiple students -anything equaling 1 1/2 hours per week would be $220.00 per month.

Mutliple students-anything equaling 2 full hours per week would be $280.00 per month.

All lessons are private. If there are more than four weeks in a pay period we would take a day off. (Such as five fridays, etc.)

By the time I was in my late teens - as mentioned- I had had 10 years of piano. I am very active in my worship and I wanted to do something that could provide a living for me since I would not get paid for the volunteer work I would preform. Some of my friend's parents - encouraged me to use my musical training and suggested - Why don't you  teach our children piano? I started with a group of six students. After two years I moved to Clarksville TN in 1965 and immediately went to the music store and started a rapport with them. I put my first ad in the Leaf Chronicle in October of 1965 and obtained 11 students never looking back! Meanwhile, I took a few more lessons from the instructors of the APSU university. I enjoy it more now than when I started.

I have had quite a variety. I have dealt with handicap youths and adults. For example, a number of autistic children, a seven year old boy who was victim of a stroke on his left side and an adult female who had lost her ring finger on her left hand in a work accident. I had to make up special - custom excercises in order to help these ones to progress.

I have taught persons from the age of 4 to the age of 84. One was a 28 year old female who was a piano teacher herself but wanted to have a better understanding. Another was a gentleman - who played in the airforce band but wanted to increase his understanding of rythmn and learn more about musical notation. I helped him to learn to play the piano and to become more skilled in playing trumpet.

In May of 2014 I began training on how to make professional videos and have quality audio. As a result, since 2015 I have made over 500 videos on my youtube site displaying many of my students and myself playing.

Recently, one of my adult students named Ed played a beautiful song titled "Polynesian Nocturne". Ed started from "scratch" only a year and a half ago. I thoroughly enjoyed releasing this video of his playing the piece. It can be seen at Youtube.com/klassy keys music/ed

Whoever you get should be someone that really loves teaching. Therefore, it will be - not only educational but enjoyable at the same time.

My piano teacher was a motivator and I try to be also.

What are your personal goals? To learn to read music? To play for your own enjoyment? Or is it to be professional?

How should I practice? What kind of instrument should I have? For example, will I be able to use a keyboard or digital piano? Or do I need an acoustic piano? (I have no objection to starting out on a keyboard or digital piano. As to when to buy an acoustic I can help a student to make a decision for that when the time is right.)

Will I be allowed to do something for "fun" or the method books only?
