Falconer Music Lessons

My name is Joseph Falconer. I am a licensed teacher with a master’s in music education. I earned my Bachelor of Music degree (concentration in Education) from Middle Tennessee State University and my Master of Music degree (concentration in String Education) from the University of Tennessee. I also attended the Brevard Music Institute with a merit scholarship for cello performance. My experience as a professional performer along with my knowledge of both violin and cello pedagogy will allow me to teach students to a high degree of technical proficiency.

I am a skilled multi-instrumentalist that is dedicated to teaching. I began studying violin when I was 6 and have studied cello since 14. I have studied guitar since I was 14 as well. I have professional experience as a cellist. Although music performance is fulfilling, my calling is teaching. My teaching experience includes substitute teaching for Knox County Schools and the “Strings in Our Schools” Initiative at Farragut Intermediate School, under the auspices of the University of Tennessee School of Music.

It is my conviction that the process of learning an instrument gives students very important skills aside from technical skill, however. I intend to equip students with the means to lead a fulfilling life. String instrument lessons show students that creating anything valuable requires diligence and skill. Students are offered an opportunity for self-expression, creativity, and meaningful experiences such as peer collaboration and concert presentation.

The renowned music pedagogue Dr. Suzuki said that every student can develop musical ability. This is why every student deserves the opportunity to experience music in a multi-faceted approach that is conducive to all learning styles and abilities. I hope to facilitate every student in finding their avenue of success.
