David Schnell

I strive to help my students become the best singer/actor/musicians that they can be. I hold Bachelors and Masters degree in Vocal Performance and was a professional singer in New York City for ten years before moving, with my wife, to Memphis. While there, I studied acting for singers at NYU and bring that training directly to my students, in addition to their singing instruction. I have professional experience in Opera, Oratorio, Music Theater, choral groups, and have traveled the world as a singer. Locally, I have worked with Opera Memphis, Rhodes Mastersingers, the Memphis Symphony, Playhouse on the Square, Theatre Memphis, and Harrell Theater.

I love to help my students prepare for auditions, whether it be All-West choral auditions, a show at Theatre Memphis, MSO Chamber Chorus, New York summer workshops, or college auditions.

I really enjoy hearing about my students' audition experiences. I always work at getting them to be better at self-assessment, whether in their preparation or in actual performance situations. Our goal is for them to eventually be able to fix problems that pop up, on the fly, during performances, lower performance stress, and actually be able to enjoy singing in front of an audience!
