What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I take an unconventional method to teaching, whether it is a student or professional artists, I always begin with establishing trust. I do this by learning who the student is- their likes and dislikes, their own philosophies and preferences and most importantly their goals. I want to focus on the individual goal of the student so I can give them specific tools to achieve it.
I also believe when teaching creative people you teach them with the methods they can relate to. Not all students are the same; therefore not all students learn the same. I meet them where they are and evaluate this every lesson.
Creative arts are a journey that I, as a teacher, am allowed to be on. It is a voyage of exploration, self-awareness and feelings. Sometimes this involves a great deal of emotion and vulnerability from a student. I am reverent of this process by creating a safe and fun environment for such expression.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been working with vocalists, songwriters and performers for 20 years. I have had students on "The Voice", national ad campaigns, release albums on major record labels and many reach their goals professionally and personally.
