About this pro

Teaching others has become a passion for me. It's also something I have a good overall grasp of, because I've had so many different functions in the music business. I've been a studio musician in Los Angeles since 1975 and played keyboards and flute on many records and CDs. I've toured and played with a long list of stars like Cher, Dolly Parton, Pointer Sisters, Neil Sedaka to name a few.  I've also composed music for over 20 prime time tv shows like Ally McBeal, Sobrina the Teenage Witch, A-Team, Hunter, L.A. Law and many more. I've performed live on the Tonight Show, Good Morning America, Dick Clark and many more. I have been an electronic new age solo artist, as well as a solo acoustic piano artist with 5 CDs to my credit. Several of those CDs are still getting air play. I've built, operated and managed project studios for many years, and have played in venues as diverse as the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Billy Bobs in Texas, Carnegie Hall in N.Y. and the Royal Albert Hall in London.  I am currently teaching music theory, composition and arranging at a major university online. (all courses I authored) These varied experiences gives me a total framework to help my students progress in any direction they choose.  If you'd like to improve your piano, keyboard or B3 playing in any style of music from jazz, country, pop, or even classical, I can help you get there.

Since I made the commitment early on, I've studied privately, in concervatories, universities and worked with some famous teachers to absorb as much knowledge as I can. For the last 7 or 8 years, I've taught music at a major university and continued teaching privately in my home. My biggest source of enjoyment now is watching my students improve and get satisfaction out of playing music on a higher level than when they started. For me, this is what it's really about.

I met Eric at a concert. He was one of the pianists featured, and I was very impressed by his piano playing. He has a tremendous amount of control and expression in his fingers. He is extremely approachable and easy-going, and we talked for a while after the concert. I decided to take lessons from him, and I have been his student for about three years. He always challenges me, and the end result is I have done things I may have never had the confidence or skill to do on my own!

Excellent teacher, performer, and musician. Very professional and I would highly recommend to anyone at any level of playing.

Eric's teaching style is as warm and friendly as he is. He takes his time with you and gives you time to truly comprehend the material he shows you. One of the awesome things about Eric is that he tailor makes your lessons to fit the goals and needs that are individually yours. He can go the "all by ear" route, or talk theory all day, though he encourages a healthy blend of both. A true Master at his craft, with years of professional experience, he also has invaluable insights and advice about the music industry and business. You could not find anyone with more qualifications and capabilities to start you out right with piano, or get you to the next level of your playing. He has certainly done that for me, and I couldn't be more thrilled with the results I'm getting in my own musical journey thanks to Eric!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

My first priority is to help students allow music playing, practicing and performing to be fun and enjoyable.  So helping to achieve the right attitude is fundamental. This one step opens the door to self improvement.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I've studied privately, classical music and jazz, on both piano and flute for many years, including quite a few years at several concervatories: UMKC, Kansas University, Belmont and the Academy of Art San Francisco. I've played in orchestras, jazz groups, pop concerts, club gigs, written and conducted music for film, television and records.  I've toured with many famous artists and now am a solo pianist with current CDs playing on the radio. This broad spectrum of experience has enabled me to deal with most teaching challenges.
