Jamie Pratt Music Lessons
About
I think music is one of the most beautiful things in this world, and I love being able to share the knowledge and ability to make music with people.
I've been a musician since I was very young, and studied classical music along with church ministry at Lipscomb University here in Nashville. I absolutely love learning and exploring new instruments, but I focus on piano, guitar, and viola. I began studying the viola in 2004, was the principal player at Lipscomb University every year, and continue to play in shows with local musicians. I studied the piano classically for about ten years before moving to Nashville for college, and have continued to play both classically and in church settings, where I began teaching several middle and high school students. Music brings so much joy, and I love to share that and help children experience that for themselves!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to begin by getting to know them, and playing some fun pieces and exercises to make them feel comfortable and to gauge their level of experience and ability. I want them to enjoy playing and practicing, so I take that information and choose a week to week plan for pieces that they will both enjoy and be challenged by.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied viola under Hillary Herndon, the viola professor at University of Tennessee while I was in middle and high school, and received a minor in classical music while under scholarship at Lipscomb University. I studied the piano for nearly ten years before moving to Nashville for college, where I continued to study and perform both classically and in worship setting. I've worked with kids in teaching swim lessons, running camps, and taking family photographs.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise looking for a teacher who is not teaching for numbers or money, but who truly enjoys the experience. This teacher will be sure to invest much more energy into every lesson. Passion matters!
