Ms. Susan's Piano Lessons
About
Hello there! I'm a classically trained pianist who started playing piano at age 4 and never stopped! :) I play and teach all styles of music. I've been a working pianist as a church musician, ballet class accompanist and accompanist for college voice and instrumentalist students. I've been teaching piano for over 40 years. I bring my expertise, joy and love of teaching to every lesson. I focus on the most relaxed way to approach the keyboard which sets me apart from many other piano teachers. I also add a bit of theory, composition and improvisation to the mix. I love teaching students who play at every level - from beginner to advanced and any age from seven on up. I've had many adult students as well as children. I look forward to meeting you.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Each student has their own goals, talents and skills so I tailor the lessons to each student's needs and desires.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started studying piano at the young age of 4 with my mother and at age 5 went to my first piano teacher outside the home and never stopped studying until after college! I went to Indiana University music school as a piano performance major. Even after college I studied with a couple more wonderful teachers. My training is classical but I play and teach all styles of music.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I'm looking for students who want to study with me in my home in the Donelson area of Nashville taking half hour lessons. I charge $35 for a half hour lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching at Summer music camp at the age of 15. One of the teachers at the camp asked me to teach their two young daughters piano. I continued to teach piano lessons while I was at college and then started my own studio of students after college. I've taught piano over 40 years now. I love breaking things down to simple ideas that students can understand and giving students techniques that keep them relaxed as possible while playing.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've taught students from ages 6 to 66 years old. I've also taught a few special needs students. I enjoy teaching students of all levels.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently went to hear Bruce Hornsby play with his band downtown at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. It was a fabulous concert!
