Music Theory Lessons
About
I have decades of experience teaching music theory. I'm a writer and composer and teacher, having worked at my craft in New York City, Florida and Texas.
After graduating from Eastman School of Music with a Bachelors in Music Theory, I moved to New York City to pursue my Masters in Composition and Theory at New York University. While there, I taught courses in ear-training and Elements of Music to undergrads.
I also composed the music and lyrics to several musicals that played around the city, as well as music directing and conducting various productions. I am an accomplished pianist and composer who has won various awards in music composition (NYMF, ASCAP awards) as well as in lyric writing (Holof and ASCAP.) www.johnmercurio.com
I have a Bachelor's in Theory from the Eastman School of Music as well and a Masters in Music Compositio/Theory from NYU and more importantly, I have been in the trenches, teaching and writing music myself for over twenty years. My songs have won awards through the Jonathan Larson Foundation, ASCAP and the New York Musical Theatre Foundation among others.
I love teaching music, talking about music, encouraging students to explore and find their own voice.
