JET Guitar Lessons
About
I have been giving private music instruction for about ten years. My goal in my instruction is to both meet the wants of the student while showing them the tools and skills necessary to obtain the discipline that they need to use on their own time. I am a Masters Graduate in Performance Studies from Texas A&M at College Station and received a Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Texas at Brownsville. During my studies at UTB, I competed in several guitar competitions, one of which was the South-Texas Pan-Am Competition where I placed second. Subsequently, I co-founded a music studio in the Brownsville, Texas area where I give private music lessons on a variety of instruments.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Initially, I explain the anatomy of the instrument. Next, I teach the student the fundamentals of position, both body and instrument. After these explanations, I begin with some simple right-hand, then left-hand coordination exercises. Following this, I instruct the student on playing one finger chords while singing a simple lullaby like "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." For the shyer students that hesitate to sing at first, I explain the importance of musical time and how singing helps the learner get a feel for the beat. If this task is achieved, with enough time for more explanation, I illustrate to the student what they just performed such as the chord diagram and the strums. My purpose with this first lesson is to show the students that they can play something right away while learning the musical language.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over ten years of experience in private music instruction. I also hold a Masters in Performance Studies from Texas A&M and a Bachelor in Music Education with an emphasis on guitar from the University of Texas at Brownsville.
