About
Our community school was founded in 2004.We have 8 wonderful teachers that are versatile and teach all genres of music including classical, jazz, theater, pop, rock and worship music. Our goal is to help you reach your goal. Some of our students prefer learning to read music and put music theory and piano technique as a high priority in their learning. We have teachers with p.h.d.'s that have trained national award winning students. Some of our students, prefer to play with other musicians. We value collaborating with musicians and have teachers that perform with bands, choirs, orchestra, rock/pop bands, and worship teams. Some of our students, prefer to learn to play chords and improvise. We value improvisation and the many ways you can be a versatile musician when you are able to get off the page. We have students that play by ear. We help students that learn well by ear to expand their horizons and see what is possible when you have the ability to hear and play music.
Whatever your love for music is, we can help you reach your potential!
First of all, I am grateful to be a pianist and I give God the glory for my musical life as a pianist. Playing piano is something I am passionate about. So it is a blast sharing what I love most (after God and family), with others that also are drawn to want to play an instrument. It is amazing to watch people of all ages with a desire to learn acutally devote themselves to learning, playing, practicing who become wonderful musicians. I just watched a video this week of one of my former students who is now a piano major at Baylor University. She is a beautiful pianist and her light shines. I am in awe of the whole learning process! It is a blessing to see how musical growth benefits each student so much. Playing piano brings peace, confidence, a way for dealing with stress and anxiety, and is a fun and creative way to express love in a passionate way! I love what I do and hope you will love piano as much as I do.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Our first goal is to get to know the student and inquire about goals and music likes, etc. Every student has an individual way of learning, so we try to figure out what is the best route for each student. Some students are cut out to learn a regimented classical approach, some are better fitted to learn how to play chords and improvise and some students prefer to learn by ear. Once we figure out the best path, we help each student find the best teacher for his or her unique gifts. We firmly believe in laying a strong foundation and helping students learn how to understand music. Our school has a variety of curriculum that we recommend for students. We also have a wonderful piano ensemble program and take students each year to perform at our state music teachers convention, Texas Music Teachers Association.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our music school, Brenham Music Academy, was founded in 2004. I have over 35 years teaching experience . I am a professional pianist and am principal pianist with the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra. I have been a professional accompanist and part-time faculty member at Blinn College in Brenham for 18 years. I have recorded three solo piano albums that are available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, youTube, Pandora and others. You can listen and subscribe to my music here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5Wqwi74kz7Pa_e2Z4rG2dg.
I have been president of Brenham Area Music Teachers Association since 2009 and served on the Texas Music Teachers Association piano ensemble committee for 6 years. Brenham Music Academy has several gifted loving teachers with a wide variety of performing and education experience.

How did you get started teaching?
When attending University of Houston in 1986, I was hired by a music school at a piano store, Holcombe-Lindquist, on Southwest Freeway in Houston. I taught over 60 students for one year including group classes and private lessons. The owner of that school, Keyboard Conservatory, Carol Clippard, also hired me to write a 6 week beginning adult piano course. From that point, I became a mobile piano teacher in Houston and started my own business, Cheryl's School of Music in 1988, while attending University of Houston. I have held many music jobs through the course of my life, but teaching has been a constant love!
