Learning the violin and viola takes a lot of patience and dedication. After teaching violin and viola to students of all ages for more than 15 years, I know how to help students overcome these early difficulties so they can learn to love making music.

Last year, I finished my doctorate at Yale University. I studied previously at Juilliard and the Cleveland Institute of Music. I currently play in the San Diego Symphony.

There's nothing I love more than observing my students' progress over time. I've had students go on to study at John's Hopkins University, Yale, Harvard, NYU, Carnegie Mellon among others. My whole life has been dedicated primarily to music; I love to share that passion with my students.

Dr. Clancy is not only at the top of her field as a performer and academic, she is a gifted educator. I took the violin along with my daughter- I was able to se Dr. Clancy adapt her teaching style for our different ages. If youre even slightly considering taking up the violin, JUST DO IT! My life has been so enriched by my time with her. My daughter is already better than me, but thats ok!

How did you get started teaching?

I've been teaching since I was 15 years old. I began by teaching neighborhood violinists that needed practice coaching. I've been teaching at the collegiate level since 2012.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Make sure that you each understand one another's goals.
