Music Lessons With Chris
About
I work very methodically and carefully with my approach to teaching music. The student gets an excellent foundation in technique, theory, and musicality. I am very student-centered and make it my priority to give each student meaningful musical experiences in every lesson. My teaching is always guided by the way the student learns.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before starting lessons, I always set up a preliminary meeting with my new student and/or parent. This gives us a chance to visit about what our goals are and it gives me a chance to share information on how I approach teaching. I find this meeting necessary for the success our lessons. I do not charge for this first meeting.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied guitar and voice at UNT and hold a bachelors degree in music in music education. Some of my coursework includes child development, elementary music education, as well as secondary music teaching. I have received formal training in teaching the classical guitar from Austin Classical Guitar, the most active guitar organization in classical guitar education. My work as a has included teaching guitar in private and group settings, as well as judging competitions and teaching masterclasses. I have performed in masterclasses for world-renown guitarists such as Pavel Steidl, Zoran Dukić, Valerie Hartzell, and Matt Palmer. As an educator, I have also traveled abroad to Hungary to study the well-respected Kodály method which is the most widely used music teaching method in Texas schools. I also teach full time as an elementary music teacher.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with many students of various interests. I have worked with those who want to play guitar as a hobby, in bands, or professionally. My teaching has brought many students to perform successfully in recitals, local venues, write their own music and even earn scholarships in music.
