How did you get started teaching?
I wanted to be a string teacher since I was in 7th grade. I went to college as a music education major and also have some training at a Suzuki school. I have over 25 years of private teaching experience, five of those years teaching virtually as well as in-person. I also have 13 years experience teaching classroom orchestra.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I also compose, and one of my pieces was performed at the Midwest Clinic International Music Convention in December 2023. I was able to meet other talented composers, hear excellent student groups perform, and attend engaging clinics.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would make sure the teacher fluently plays the instrument I want to learn. I would also want the teacher to be very observant, especially of the lessons are online. I would also be mindful that, "You get what you pay," when it comes to private teachers.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. Goals - What are your short-term and long-term goals?
2. Are you a perfectionist? Have ADHD? Dyslexia? Your teacher should have experience working with students just like you.
