My teaching approach: I've taught since 1985 and averaged over 30 students a week since then. I am the author of "Guitar Made Simpler- An Intelligent Approach" as well as former columnist for Vintage Guitar magazine. I've helped over 4,000 students learn the guitar and can take folks from rank beginner all the way up to working pros. I even taught at "GIT" in Los Angeles while enrolled as a student. Call me today! My influences are: As a teacher, Bill Wilson, Bob Stallings, John Wheliss, Howard Roberts, Les Wise, Dan Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Charlie Fecter, Keith Wyatt, Eric Pascal and Tim Lerch, among others. As a player, Carl Wilson, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Leslie West, Steve Howe, Larry Carlton, Wes Montgomery, etc. My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours: Mon- Thur- 9am- 6pm, 7-10 pm Guitar Techniques: Lead guitar, Fingerstyle, Slide Guitar, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Recording and Production Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: I explain why we wrote and published"Guitar Made Simpler" and help students learn correct left and right hand positions. I then explain why the guitar is organized like it is and then begin teaching them how to learn guitar efficiently and effectively. A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: I find out via a three question homework assignment before our first lesson where someone is coming from. Have they been playing a while or are they rank beginners? Why are they seeking formal instruction? What do they hope to gain from the process? How much time do they have in a day or week to devote to guitar? I then aim my instruction towards helping students get where they want to be as soon as possible. The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: Someone who likes the guitar and is willing to simply follow instructions and work on their playing a little each day. I can show them how to proceed to accomplish their goals quickly.
Riley Wilson is excellent. He makes learning fun. I am 57 years old and just starting guitar. Riley is patient, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. He brings lots of little tips gained from his years of experience. I feel incredibly fortunate to have learned from him.
