How did you get started teaching?
I've been in involved with martial arts since I was a young boy. In my late teens I became a protege for very well known martial arts instructor based out of San Diego, CA who also mentored me into teaching the students that were flying in to see him. In 2000 I started teaching for an academy at 2 locations based out of Chicago, IL. In 2007 I began teaching private lessons, 2008 I opened my first academy and by 2013 I was opening my 4th academy.
What types of students have you worked with?
I feel very lucky to have encountered a wide variety of amazing people around the globe. With both of my businesses, I have the honor of teaching and training people that include:
- Adults interested in martial arts training
- Adults interested in fitness and want to use martial arts/boxing/kickboxing to get there
- State and Federal Law Enforcement
- Military Personnel
- College students
- Women's Self Defense to over 1500 women
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently I moved from Chicago, IL to Dallas, TX. I closed my academies in Chicago as my training contracts for law enforcement and corporate teams allows me to truly live anywhere in the US. When I moved here, many of the local martial arts academies and law enforcement agencies heard that I was now located outside of Dallas, and immediately offered me their facilities to come teach whenever I would live. I thought this was beyond kind of everyone, to invite me into their business without even knowing me, but knowing my history and reputation in our industry.
