About

My students learn how to be excellent singers and more importantly, to express their unique voices. They learn how to take charge of their artistic experience and feel totally empowered.

That's right...No more standing in the background aimlessly trying to find your place! Instead, own your artistic identity!

I have trained in opera for around 10 years. I also sang in many choirs. Eventually, I started teaching the art. I have been teaching voice for almost two decades and work with people who want to do pop, classical and more.

I have performed on large-scale stages such as the Walt Disney Theater and Fox Theater, as well local theaters.

Over the last couple of years, I have been working on a project entitled Impressions of Devotion, a world-fusion choral album, collaborations with musicians like Mike Raznick, Sundance composing fellow and film composer, and Andrew Synowiec, grammy-winning guitarist. I have also performed with, and under the direction of, Salim-Sulaiman, the famed Bollywood music composing Duo, as well as Hussein Janmohamed, a world renowned choral conductor.

I'm excited to share my knowledge and experience with you through my unique teaching methods.

Being that I studied Hindustani Classical music for over 7 years, I also love working with those who want to incorporate some Hindustani classical learnings into their overall voice education. So call me if you want some FUSION musical studies in your life.

The best thing about being a music teacher is

-hearing those voices transform

-watching the students go through some of the experiences I did only to find their true place in the musical world.

Even after my initial training I was a little timid about my voice. Everyone else seemed so much more confident than me. But, when I pursued an education with the right coaches, I started to feel like I could be myself. I felt like I could express my truth through song. And... that's where I like to take my students.

Samira has been one of the only arts teachers I have been able to stick to for a long time because of how innovative and interdisciplinary her frameworks can be. Not only has working with her improved my craft, but it has also fundamentally challenged the way I think about and approach the arts, music, and life. 100000000/10 recommend.

Samira will meet you right where you are! She structured the lessons based on exactly what I needed and where I was getting stuck. She came to lessons from a very grounded somatics place, noticing where I was getting stuck in my head, where I needed to ground in my body, and where I simply needed more practice.

Samira is very patient filled with lots of skills and kindness. She has taught me to embrace my talent, and not be afraid to show it. When I started with Samira I was rusty in vocals and could barely play piano. A couple of months later with her being my instructor I have improved significantly! She has a great heart and puts 100% in all her students.

I am glad to have worked with Samira as my vocal coach. She has helped me gain confidence within my own voice. She helped me see different parts of my voice that I didn’t even know I had. She is very patient and will do her best to accommodate with her students. I cannot wait to take a few more lessons with her and also shown her how far I’ve reach with my voice. :)

    Frequently asked questions

First, I assess where the new student is in their music education.

Then, I make note of their interests and unique learning processes so that I can customize for their needs!

    Then, we take off!

I studied classical music (piano, choral and opera) for over 10 years in my youth. Once I entered college I started focusing on pop, jazz and improvisation. That journey inspired me to learn composition so that I could become a composer and music director.

By 2006, I became very interested in creating fusion music, so I studied Hindustani Classical under Heera Kulkarni for several years.

    All classes are virtual (ZOOM)

    $165 for 4 lessons (30 mins each)

    $240 for 4 lessons (45 mins each)

    $300 for 4 lessons (1 hour each)

I started teaching in Houston, TX in 2001. Recognizing a need for voice lessons that spanned more than just classical music, I decided to offer lessons that were customized to the student. I want you to learn what you WANT to learn!

I still love teaching classical music, but now, I'm teaching musical theater, pop, jazz, Indian/Hindustani, and fusion styles.

    I have worked with

    - singers seeking to improve their technique

    - those who want to cross over to music composition and write their own music while keeping up their vocal training

    - those who need help building a solid foundation of technique and repertoire

-children prepping for talent shows and competitions

-those who wish to learn music theory and piano accompaniment training

Recently at a major event where I sang in Dubai, I remember looking at the thousands of people in the audience and realizing this: that my work was making a real difference.

That's what I want students to feel. That their work as singers is impactful and important to the human experience.

Students seeking out lessons should be true to what they want. Do you want specific kinds of training? Then be sure to mention it during your initial phone call or lesson. Do you just want to have fun and let the teacher take the lead on deciding how things go? Mention that as well. The more people know about one another, the better the experience.
