I started my practice in 1985 teaching in the LISD Music Tutorial Program then in 1989,I left this and taught on my own. I am listed here as a Guitar Instructor. The truth is I teach a variety of music concentrations: Band Instruments (All), Recorder, Voice, Guitar, Ukulele, Music Theory, Beginner Piano, Beginner Strings.For the young students ( around 6 or so) I show them how music can be fun and help parents to work with their children duringthe week. For the school age students I help them to organize and schedule so as to allow for school studies and musical practice. For the secondary school age students I can help them with musical activities in school and with musical competitions and tryouts. For the adult I can help them to pursue personal interests as hobby.
I enjoy seeing my students succeed. I am especially proud of the fact that parents have told me their child's overall academic performance improved when he/she began taking lessons from me. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I try to give a student a realistic outlook on musical studies; that while music need not and should not be all work and no play, it is not all play and no work. But I do strive to make it fun for the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate of Texas Tech University with a degree in Music Education; I am even certified.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I normally charge for four 1/2 hour lessons at a time or two hours of Instruction time and collect upfront.
How did you get started teaching?
I began on a Music Tutorial Program in the local public school system; namely Lubbock ISD. I went from there to the Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department teaching in the community centers and most recently to teaching also in the students' homes.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students of all ages and walks of life. My youngest student was 4 years old and my oldest student was 86.
