What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We first have a student fill out our Sign Up form on our website. Once we receive the Sign Up form, a first session can be booked online through our booking calendar.
During the first lesson, the first instructor will review the information on the Sign Up form, use some basic exercises to assess the student's capabilities, and begin to discuss next steps and goals for future lessons. We focus largely on proper fundamental technique, educational psychology, and the music theory center around it.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Many of our instructors hold multiple degrees in their disciplines, along with many years of teaching experience and additional rigorous training that our organization requires of all incoming instructors. Some of our instructors hold as high as a Doctorate in their discipline, and as many as 30 years of teaching experience!

How did you get started teaching?
Your Lessons Now was founded in 2019, our goal is to provide effective, customizable, and cost efficient gender affirming vocal coaching for transgender or non-binary people undergoing transition, as well as to provide a judgment free learning environment. Inclusivity benefits everyone involved, that is why we think the latter is important in other places as well, which is why we make sure to provide that in our music lessons as well. We conduct our lessons online through Zoom, so that you can learn in the comfort of your own home!
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with singers of all different genres, professionals that need public speaking skills, voice over professionals, transgender clients wanting to change their voice, classical pianists, church musicians, rock/metal musicians, you name it! Whatever your skill level level or goals may be, there's a place for you here!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You get what you pay for - it may be cheaper to go someplace else, but odds are you are not going to get the same level of instruction trying to go for the lowest price possible.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Firstly, students should reflect on their goals and how their needs align with their aspirations and progress in their instrument or voice. This reflection enables students to articulate their concerns clearly and provide context for their requests, whether it's regarding technique, repertoire selection, or performance opportunities.
Secondly, students should consider the best timing and setting for the conversation, ensuring it takes place at a suitable moment when both the student and instructor can dedicate sufficient time to the discussion without distractions.
Additionally, students should contemplate their objectives for the conversation and what outcomes they hope to achieve, whether it's seeking guidance, addressing challenges, or exploring new musical directions.
Finally, students should think about how to communicate their needs effectively, considering their tone, language, and approach to ensure that the conversation remains conducive to constructive feedback. By carefully considering these questions beforehand, students can approach their teachers with confidence and navigate discussions about their needs with clarity and purpose.
