I've taken lessons from a few teacher, and Jim is much better at helping me understand music theory. And I feel like he is invested in my success.

Jim Maguire is one of the best guitarist I have ever heard. Better than that, he is humble enough to break down even the simplest of techniques for beginners. I have been taking lessons with Jim for a long time and I can't recommend him enough. He is an inspiration to work with and my new guitar skills back that claim up! He is experienced in blues, jazz, pop, metal and everything in between and doesn't hesitate to teach any style you want, but also encourages students to become comfortable in other styles as well. Did I mention this guy can play?? He knows guitar amd music theory forwards and backwards and wants his students to do so, as well. I started learning guitar by watching YouTube videos, but Counter to what you Currently think, face to face sessions are so much better, and worth every penny with Jim.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I ask the student questions about what they know, what music they like, and what their goals are. Then I can adjust how I teach to suit each student!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a degree in contemporary guitar from one of the most prestigious music schools in the world: Berklee College of Music in Boston. I have Taought for more than a decade, worked as a performing and touring musician, and recorded albums.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$40 if you come to my house in Katy, Texas. $60 if I go to you.

How did you get started teaching?

I started in high school and I've never had a job that wasn't teaching or playing music.

What types of students have you worked with?

All ages, Pros, the disabled, aspiring college students, you name it.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

One of my students came to me knowing no guitar and asked me to help him play and sing his favorite songs at his own wedding. 2 months later, he did it! That was really cool to see, and she had no idea!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Make sure they know what they are doing. Bad habits can be very hard to undue and you do not want to waste your time!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Think about what your goals are and what you would like to sound like!
