About
Rock University is the premier music studio in Utah. We opened for business in Draper Utah in 2009 but Rock U owner Jared Barney has been teaching guitar since 1995. We currently have hundreds of students in our program that range in a age from 5 years old to 80 years old. We specialize in guitar, piano, drums, voice, bass and ukulele lessons. At Rock U we love the personal connection we have with our clients. We call our clients our Rock U Family because we become so close with them on a personal level as well as a professional level. We love watching our students gain self-esteem and self-confidence as they become proficient musicians. We have had students that have been on The Voice and students that have signed recording and publishing deals, but we are just as excited when a student plays and sings at their school talent show or our concerts and open mic nights or the first time, when they originally told us they were way to scared to perform for others. We just love connecting and making lifelong friends through a mutual love of music.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Rock University has a structured curriculum that is geared towards creating a love for music and the instrument the student has chosen to play. We have professional instructors that love inspiring their students to work hard and develop their talent and then share their talent with others! We have hundreds of clients and students currently in our program. Some have even been on national tv shows like The Voice, Real Country and Streets Of Dreams.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Rock U owner Jared Barney has been teaching guitar since 1995 (over 20 years experience). He was the lead singer and rhythm guitar player in the band Millhouse and has opened for national acts such as Sheryl Crow, The Drifters and Smash Mouth to name a few.
Rock University has guitar, piano, drum, voice, bass and ukulele instructors that specialize in many styles and genres.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Guitar lesson prices range from $125 to $150 per lesson term (a term is one 1/2 hour lesson a week for 4 weeks). Price varies by instructor.
Voice Lessons: $130 per term
Drum Lessons: $135 per term
How did you get started teaching?
Rock U owner Jared Barney started taking guitar lessons when he was 16 years old. He advanced through the program quickly and after three years he was asked to become a teacher at that same studio. During his time teaching Jared became so in demand that he had over a year wait to get on his schedule. In 2009 Jared started Rock University in Draper Utah.
What types of students have you worked with?
At Rock U we work with students of all ages and ability levels. Many of our instructors are currently in bands or have been in bands. So we can help anyone, from brand new beginners to people that have been playing for many years and want to expand on their current skill levels.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they have a structured curriculum! At Rock University we have a curriculum that is unique to our school, created by Jared Barney over the 25 years he has been teaching.
