Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We work at the pace of the student. We build mastery at every level before we move to the next level. It is important to get outside of your comfort zone a little and then practice building confidence for the next stretch. It is fun and confidence inspiring!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a USHPA Certified Instructor Member #69125
I am one of the few Master Rated Pilots in both Paragliding and Hang Gliding.
In 2014, I was awarded the USHPA Instructor of the Year.
I am also an Instructor Administrator, meaning that I train the instructors in both paragliding and hang gliding.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
These can all be found on our website at www.revflight.com
How did you get started teaching?
I have been an instructor my entire life. I love to teach and my main reason for teaching is the human connection that happens. I love that aspect of teaching...a rich, human experience.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all body types and special needs. From athletes to parapalegics. I have taught children as well as seniors in their 90's.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just went on a 10 day Costa Rica flying vacation and made a lot of new flying friends. I now have tours that I offer to Costa Rica for new pilots.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure your instructor not only has credentials with the USHPA, in good standing as well as great skills, but also has empathy. I cannot emphasize this last quality enough. Without empathy, even good instructors fumble with the human connection and usually end up at odds with their students.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Make sure the instructor has a proper training site. This should include an adequately sized and shape of training hill and access to flight simulator and ground school location.
