Mike Johnson Guitar Lessons
About
My teaching approach:
It's not enough to just master the technique of playing the instrument, you need to be a well-rounded musician too. This means having a good understanding of the underlying theory behind music, developing a strong sense of meter (rhythm), and being exposed to music from many genres and cultures. I incorporate theory, listening and accompaniment into the lessons to achieve this.
My influences are:
I have literally thousands of influences. Everything from 70's guitar heroes to current ones. Jazz, classical and rock and singer-songwriter stuff.
My guitar lessons take place in:

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:
I talk about the student's musical background and what their goals are. I note the types of music they are interested in and their favorite artists. If they are not a beginner I will have them play something so I can see what they know already and how their rhythm and technique is.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:
For most people we might spend half the lesson on reading or technique and the second half learning a song that the student is interested in, using tabs or chord diagrams and recordings
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:
The ideal guitar student is curious and loves music. They like to practice and tell me what they enjoy or don't enjoy about their lessons so I can better teach them
