I am a professional gigging classical guitarist and composer with a degree in music composition.
What I teach: classical guitar (nylon string fingerstyle), acoustic, electric guitar (blues, rock, metal), music theory, and composition
My teaching approach: Having been through both the systematic approach of teaching music in a college setting and the fluid approach of private mentorship, it is clear that the latter is ideal for learning any skill (especially in the arts). Everybody learns at a different pace and everybody has a unique idea of what they want to accomplish as a musician. With this in mind, my approach is based on the traditional teaching methods/materials that you would find in a college but with an emphasis on your personal wants, strengths/weaknesses, pace of learning, and overall goals.
I have had the great fortune to spent most of my time as a student with the highest regarded guitarists and composers in Utah as my mentors. Using this, coupled with 20 years of real world experience, I hope to pass on the knowledge and inspiration that makes being a musician the most exciting and rewarding thing in life.
My favorite part about teaching is seeing my students experience the "Aha! moment" when they discover the sounds of their favorite music happening under their own fingers.
