About
We are a performance based music school. We currently have 5 youth student ensembles, including rock, jazz, r&b/funk/show tunes, percussion group and 2 adult bands (rock/pop and jazz). Our student recitals for our private music study students are presented with each indidivual student performing with our staff in a real "ensemble" experience.
Most all of our staff are music degreed and/or have equivilent performance experience to share with our students to help develop a well balanced musical background.
In the past 15 years of our existence, we have literally helped 100's of young people develop not only solid lifetime musical abililities , but the confidence and self esteem necessary to become solid and responsible adults with some moving on into studying music in college. We are totally family friendly, and many parents experience the onsite energy of our facility by either sitting in on lessons, or just simply waiting at the studio itself.
We teach "real world music", which meand HOW TO READ MUSIC, and incorporate theory with most all of our students when appropriate.
Our current association with "EducationalAdvantage" as a teaching and testing facility for them, allows high school students to get credit for graduation for taking lessons at our studio as well. (requires registration with EducationAdvantage to make the arrangements for this credit, as well as working through the established curriculum and taking tests at our studio)
As founder of Wasatch Music Coaching Acadamy, I have individually and with my family, invested a lifetime into learning and appreciating music. My heart is full of gratitude for that!!! Both Individually and and along with my own family, the past 15 years of experiences I have had with our great WMCA students families have been some of the greatest and most rewarding years in my life!!!
Being able to share my passion of music is so important to me, and I enjoy experiencing the influence with people in doing so. Music is so powerful, and affects individuals in so many ways.
It's incredibly rewarding to listen to, watch and experience the progress of musical ability developing within people, ESPECIALLY young people. The witnessing of life changing experiences in our students is the BIG payback for what we do...and it keeps on happening constantly! It is pure joy to be around this every day!!!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We first set up a time to interview the students and parents. The goal is to find what they want out of music, and to let them know what we can offer to help them achieve their musical goals. We then line them up with an appropriate teacher by sharing mutual contact information, and they set up a slot to get going.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Studied private piano from age 4 to 18
Studied, performed, and taught drums since the age of 13
Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Utah, 1978
Master of Music degree from the University of Miami, 1981
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$160 for four 30-minute private lessons a month
$210 for four-30 minute private lessons a month, plus weekly regular 1 hour ensemble, 4 times a month
$75 for ensemble only, 1 hour, 4 times a month
(custom arrangements can easily be made, on a one on one needs basis)
How did you get started teaching?
I just did it starting as a youth, and it has been a part of life live ever since.

All types people...ages 4 through 75
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The performance of two of our bands this past Saturday, September 7, 2019...at the Salt Lake Avenues Street Fair.
(and MANY other live performances, recitals, shows and productions over the past 14 years)
In May of 2017, we did a "concert" version of the Broadway show Hamilton, comprised of 17 of our top students (9 vocalists and 8 instrumentalists) It was a solid 1hr 45 minutes of LIVE versions of 26 selections of the show...with some blocking and props.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Know what you want out of music. Be ready to practice and work hard...while keeping in mind the incredible sense of accomplishment, development of self esteem and love for music which you will develop on your musical adventure!!!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The only one which comes to mind...is PLEASE...DO NOT make music another one of our "several activities" to keep you busy. Do it because you will be serious about it...and if it IS among a few activities weekly...treat it equally to the other ones you have...and put all you can into it!!!
