About

Hello! I'm Gigi and would love to help you learn one of the most aggravating, yet, satisfying instruments to play. I've taught for 3 years on and off now from this website or in person referral. As a self taught guitarist/musician, I've played for 8 years. This does not make me an expert, but it does make me experienced. One thing you should know, is that I do not usually teach from a book, but I can. I can teach from beginner to intermediate levels. Everything we do is something you want to learn. So, lessons are very goal oriented to getting you playing what you want to play. I can teach different styles ranging from classic rock to folk to jazz. Yes, country is in there. I prefer my classical acoustic guitar or my jazz electric, so let's help you find out what you like and want to learn!

I enjoy seeing how much fun students have as they work hard and improve. Guitar is one of my many passions and has helped me find ways to use it as a positive stress reliever, and has helped prove to myself and other students that hard things can be done. You don't have to be perfect, you will learn that learning requires mistakes. That mistakes don't make you a failure, just a learner.

    Frequently asked questions

Find what knowledge has already been acquired, establish what students goal is, create a plan to help them achieve that goal. For example, a student may know only a few chords and how to hold/strum the guitar. Their goal is to learn songs with more than 3 chords and different strumming patterns. With that, I would first go over some basic chords and progress to strumming once chords are mastered. I teach by Hal Leonard books, but a book is not required.
For two years in high school, I taught piano for groups of 3 kids. Teaching piano is different, but aids in knowing how to teach to something. I have taken music theory & piano lessons since I was 7, have been teaching myself guitar and have learned from my Dad who has been in bands and has taken lessons. In addition, I have been constantly teaching myself guitar through Youtube.
Yes, I will be charging $35 an hour (which is one lesson session).
I started teaching guitar to a friend in college and it went on from there.
I've worked with college students, high school, elementary kids and age 60.
A friend that I had taught basics of guitar, called me once to play me a song that she had learned from me. She wanted to learn this country song she really liked. Strumming did not come easy for her, but with some patience and determination, she learned it, showed me and aced it.
I would advise you to ask your future teacher to have videos of themselves playing. This would be so that you could see their expertise in action and to see their hard work come through.
Did you use the resources given? How much did you practice? What are your goals while learning guitar? What kind of music do you want to play? Why do you want to learn guitar?
