I have played with National Acts such as Riders In The Sky (cowboy music) Hank Williams Jr. I have recorded for PBS specials, radio commercials and many individual sessions. I have taught at many music studios in the Washington DC area. Music & Arts, Foxes Music, Capone Music, Picker's Supply and Kingstowne Acoustic Music as a manager where I ran a monthly jam session. I am certified by Ross Nickerson to teach his banjo methods. I have played with Doc Scantlin's Imperial Palms Orchestra, Deanna Bogart and still hire out as a hired gun for local bands. I teach all levels and have have the patience to move at any speed as not to over whelm students. I remove the fear of failure and teach each student exactly what music they wish to play.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask the student exactly what their interest are and what they would like to accomplish. If they have never played I start with proper and easy playing technique with understandable explanations and goal settings. I always try to make the lesson fun and adjust every lesson to fit their interest. I ask them to make a song list of tunes they like or would like to play and teach them accordingly. If they want more theory I build it into the lesson with practical application. If they wish to read music I try to make it painless and fun as if they are learning a new language. I always adapt to the student and give them access to music that they may like in the styles they might find interesting.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching music and playing professionally since 1974. I have taken Jazz seminars and played with many world class musicians and college educators who have schooled me in proper ensemble playing and improvisation while gigging with them. I have the confidence and technique to play almost any gig at any level on mulitple instruments, guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass. I am a working on fiddle on a daily basis and working to the point where I can add it as an advanced level. I read manuscript (sheet music) on all instruments.
