About this pro

Hi! I am a 20 year old student attending the University of Virginia majoring in Music and Cognitive Science. I have been playing music with a passion since I was six years old, have been the leader of a band for the past two years, and am currently working on a solo EP. I have taught lessons to friends and friends of friends in the past and am recently expanding to the Charlottesville area. I am most interested in teaching elementary through high school students who have little to no experience with the guitar, hoping to be a good first step in their hopefully long musical journey! Please feel free to contact me with any potential questions.

Took lessons twice a month with him over the past year and he helped me a lot with learning to read sheet music and overall understanding the guitar better. I did not pay for lessons though as he offered to teach me for free in order to gain experience. Really nice and easy to talk to. See you next school year man!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

The first thing I do is to find out about their musical interests and goals and create a lesson plan based on that conversation. This may involve a heavy look into music theory, a focus on learning tab, or a more general, "casual" approach looking at chord sheets.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I took four years of guitar lessons in high school and have been playing weekly in a band or solo for the past three years. I've also taken a few music theory classes at UVA.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My prices are currently $20 for a half hour lesson. Since I am merely a Student doing this part time, I do not currently have a set pricing model.

How did you get started teaching?

I've taught friends and friends of friends in the past and have always enjoyed it. I was looking for a part time job while I volunteered in a research lab and figured I might as well do something I loved and teach others about it.

What types of students have you worked with?

Mostly high school or college aged students, but have taught elementary school kids.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Most recently I played a very large open mic night with over 700 people and had a lot of fun, but playing music is always a fond memory for me.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Find someone who you're able to communicate well with and who fits your goals. If you don't like or can't have fun with your teacher during lessons it may turn you off of music forever, which to me is a terrible thing.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Can you teach me the music I want to learn?
