About

As a part of my studio, you have the opportunity to dive into the study of music through a customized program with a caring teacher who will bring music-making to life in a way that is relatable and applicable to many aspects of your life.

What you get in a lesson:

- Hands-On Activities

- Creativity and Exploration

- Nurturing Environment

- Personalized Lessons Experience

Lessons are online-only for the time being due to our current situation; in-person option TBD.

Learning to play an instrument, whether it has keys, valves, tubes or strings is the beginning of taking the next step beyond just singing along with a children’s TV show or movie about an ice princess to become a practitioner of the musical arts. With time and effort and a kind and patient guide to help the student along, new knowledge and skills will be gained. A phone ringing or the kitchen timer ‘ding’ begins to gain a musical dimension.

Through easy or difficult days, I will guide, cheer and encourage you in your study of music even when there are days when practicing seems harder or when improvement seems two steps away instead of one. We will set goals and work towards them regardless of your learning speed. You will put in the effort that is right for you to achieve those goals and together we will make it all the way to your final recital and a celebration.

We are extremely grateful to have found Claire Tan’s studio for our two piano students (10 and 15 years old). Claire is dedicated to her students and expends a great deal of extra effort tailoring her teaching approach to each student. This is not a one size fits all piano studio, it is a nurturing place for your aspiring piano player to learn and grow with music. Claire is an innovative pedagogical professional and extremely talented musician. We highly recommend her studio.

Frequently asked questions

I start by conducting an initial interview/trial lesson where I get an idea of the student's learning style, preferences, and the family's musical goals for the child. From there, we can decide if we are a good fit for each other and establish a contract.

Once you start taking lessons, find creative ways to establish a system that will ensure you get the time you need to practice. Putting your practice chart on the refrigerator, practicing before dinner, after school, etc.
