The Violin & Piano Studio Of Janice Mauroschadt

I am an adult learner who had zero experience with piano when I started lessons with Janice. Piano was something that I always had an interest in, but had never pursued. Im glad I finally did!

With Janices instruction I see tangible improvement week over week. Every individual learns at a different pace, and Janice recognizes this and adjusts the material to an appropriate level so it is both challenging and motivating. She is encouraging and at the same time pushes you to do your best. Her tips for practice methods have been invaluable. I come away from each lesson having learned something that has fundamentally deepened my insight of the music and the practice.

Also, as an adult learner, life responsibilities can sometimes get in the way of of personal interests. Janice is flexible and accomodating with scheduling, which helps to keep me on track when the unexpected occurs.

Personally, I often have difficulty sticking with new pursuits. Now that Im close to a year into learning piano Im confident it will be a lifelong practice. Being new to the Charlottesville area, we were really hopeful to find a piano teacher for my son who had no previous experience. After working with Janice for 6 weeks, we have seen tremendous improvement and increased enthusiasm for learning piano. Janice is a classical teacher who teaches fundamentals in a way that is both encouraging and fun. We are pleased with our sons’ progress.

Additionally, we enrolled our son in her drawing class, which has given our son a greater awareness of the skills needed to be a talented artist. Janet is a knowledgeable teacher with the skills to move her students towards greater fine arts performance.

I have now taken four lessons with Janice and my progress is noticeable already. Im 22 years old and am at square one on the piano, but Janice has made my introduction to the instrument completely comfortable. Our daughters began piano and violin lessons with Ms. Mauroschadt in January of 2020 and our expectations were simply that they would learn how to play their respective instruments and develop a love for the arts.

In three months, Ms. Mauroschadt has wildly exceeded those expectations! I was immediately impressed with Ms. Mauroschadts skillful use of the Suzuki Method and her ability to provide our girls with some insight in regard to the inner grounding necessary to enjoy the overall learning process. Both girls have been progressing rapidly, but much more importantly, and unexpectedly, they have learned valuable lessons in character development and life skills—particularly courage to face failure, and resolve to proceed time and again, until they experienced success. They have also learned patience, commitment, discipline and humility while embracing the work involved in making practice successful and have surprisingly encountered the joy that follows after success is attained. As a proud parent, I am hopeful that they will develop their musical abilities as far as they are able. But I am more grateful that the moral skills they have learned will better prepare them to face life’s future challenges.

We’ve known Janice for over 10 years now. She first taught our eldest child violin and was excellent at engaging the child’s interest with the violin. She could strike the perfect balance between making the child feel comfortable and motivated to learn the instrument while emphasising the correct technique and expanding their repertoire. Her vast experience can be recognised by her astute observations once the child starts playing and the many ways she comes up with to address issues that might affect the child’s violin playing abilities. Currently, our younger two children have started online Violin lessons with Janice even though we have long moved out of Charlottesville. We just cannot find another violin teacher who is as dedicated and skilled as Janice!
