I teach piano and basic composition, all ages and levels. I've taught piano and piano pedagogy at James Madsion University in Harrisonburg, VA for over 30 years. I'm active in VMTA and HMTA (our state and local music teachers associations), and have performed solo and chamber recitals in the US and Europe. I am semi-retired but enjoy teaching private students at my home and a graduate piano course at the university. My pre-college students are active in recitals, competitions, and many have gone on to study music in college. I also each a half dozen adult students, many who are "young at heart" retirees. I have a doctorate, a masters and two bachelors degree in music and art history. I've presented many lecture recitals on topics that include art, literature and music. I've also taught many piano pedagogy classes, helping college piano majors to become fine piano teachers. At my home, students enjoy playing a new Steinway B grand piano and a newly acquired 15th century reproduction Flemish harpsichord for early keyboard music. I truly love teaching and sharing my enthusiasm for learning all types of music, from baroque, classical, romantic, to contemporary, and from traditional to jazz and popular styles.
Working with students who are eager and excited to learn to play beautiful music!
