Bachelor and Master of Music from Johns Hopkins University (Peabody Conservatory)
I became passionate about teaching very early in the game. I began unofficially teaching my friends as a high school student before progressing to teaching adults. I’ve put in more than 20 years into developing my teaching method.
My studio has always been a blend of professional level guitarists, aspiring conservatory students, and very passionate amateur players.
Choosing a teacher is a very important part of the process. A teacher not only has to give you the correct information, by the way. That’s just the first layer. A real teacher is going to coach and motivate you everytime you feel like giving up practicing. They’re also going to understand how much life gets in the way of practicing and they’re going to give you methods for time efficiency.
You need to make sure that the music you’re most passionate about is a passion that the teacher shares. If you’re musical style is far out of the wheel-house of the teacher expertise, the lessons will have a lot of friction. Talk this through with a teacher to avoid frustration.
