Then I will determine his/her knowledge of music theory, and ability to play chords, scales, and arpeggios. A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: You play some chordal and scalar exercises, and then something from your repertoire. Then we will discuss new exercises and ideas to incorporate into your daily practice. There will be some music theory discussion, followed by ear training (finding the chords, hearing the intervals, recognizing riffs). The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: An ideal guitar student is someone who is eager to learn and has a desire to play regularly.
