Hello! Privet! Здравствуйте! I have Masters on Piano Pedagogy and Piano Performance from Gnessin Academy of Music ( Moscow,Russia) and more than 30 years of teaching experience of students of different levels and ages. Some went for music career, some became winners of competitions, some enjoy piano playing and do not need me anymore, because I though them how to became independent learners.

Day time students have advantage. I give them min 15 min extra time.
How did you get started teaching?
At age 16 when I was in music college. We had a pedagogy class when a student was tough by me under a professor guidance.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
look for quality not for convenience of distance or money. Not good teacher might damage your foundation of technique or teach you bad habbits, which will be challenge to fix. So if you choose wrong teacher you might pay for your own trouble.
Ask if teacher has actual degree ( on paper) on piano. I have one- it is on the wall on my studio. Many "teachers' lie. Ask to see how her/his students play. YouTube. It is easy our days. See if teacher can play her/his self. And after that only time will show how good teacher is. Not good teacher will teach you for years and result will be zero, a little or desisted. A good teacher. Has a system, you will see your progress in a few month. If you attracted to pianist, who play beautifully and you assume - you will play like him/her - 99% is doeason work this way. Great pianist hate to teach, cannot teach because they were focusing on solo career and it is hard for them to teach, because to play for them it is like breath and they annoy if student cannot get it. It is just so simple, in their opinion. Teach piano it is skills. And a gift. A teacher need to know how to explain tasks so student know how to practice and be able to move farther. Read my blogs.
