About
Whether you're a beginner, or revisiting Piano Lessons, our formula for student success (and the secret to getting really, really good!) is in a solid music foundation, lesson design, and restructure, that addresses the limitations and issues within the "traditional private 30-minute lesson" -- such as lesson length, nerves, unsupervised practice, lack of mastery, under-developed sight reading skills, under-developed performance skills and anxiety...and, most of all the foundation upon which all other music skills happen. We focus on building confidence and independence, superior reading and practice skills, and making sure our students get results and LOVE what they're accomplishing.
But, there's even more to our formula. We also want parents to experience and enjoy some "Lesson Success", so we make sure students conquer any musical and practice issues during their lesson. Playing at home is actually FUN -- never a chore, and never a battle!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We recommend an in-studio meeting prior to beginning lessons, so that the student can take a studio tour, meet teachers, and possibly sample a bit of a lesson. This is also a good time to go over questions, studio policies, and help the student set up a realistic practice plan at home.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 25 years of music teaching experience, working with students of all ages and levels, in both a private and group setting. I hold a Bachelor of Music Degree, belong to the Rappahannock Music Society, and also chair the annual RMS Jazz, Rags, & Blues Festival.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We charge a flat monthly fee of $150 (this is for a half-hour lesson weekly). This is an averaged amount, based on 46 active lesson weeks per year at a rate of $40.00 per lesson, divided into 12 equal monthly payments. Therefore, the amount does not change, regardless of the number of weeks in the month. Other payment plans, such as 10-months, and pay-in-full for the year, are also offered.
How did you get started teaching?
I trained and studied throughout grade school and then in college to be a music teacher, then began teaching upon completion of my degree.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students of all ages, levels, and abilities.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I often advise incoming students to consider that they will need to allow (and schedule!) time for practice at home on a daily basis -- even on their lesson day -- in order to make adequate progress and become musically literate.
