About

I love to teach and I hope to share that love with my students. It is my desire to develop any God-given gifts a student has been given to the best of their abilities. We try to set up a mini recital at some Nursing Homes once a semester to give the students a chance to share and a goal to learn new pieces. My Drama classes do a production each semester in which all participate.

I have been teaching for 20 years mostly here and some in Florida. My undergraduate degree is a major in keyboard and voice and a minor in Drama and Psychology and my graduate degree is in Christian Education and Counseling.

Seeing a student learn new skills, improve at what they are studying, having positive experiences by themselves as they grow and learn and meet goals, and with audiences, and service opportunities brings me joy and satisfaction. Knowing they are learning experiences that will stand them in good stead through their lives is a wonderful feeling. I have been blessed by being at this long enough that I see students who are now using their gifts for others. What a thrill that is for a teacher.

Frequently asked questions

Depending on if its an adult student or one still under age;

I invite the parent to be sure and sit in on the first lesson.  I find out why they are taking lessons, what kind of music they like, what kind of instrument they have, and any goals they have for learning a particular instrument.  Sharing with them my expectations for each week and the long term helps to make it clear they can feel free anytime to ask questions or make suggestions.  We work together on getting them to be able to do a recognizable song as soon as possible.  Positive feedback is essential.  I want them to have fun for it to be something they look forward to doing.

If the student is an adult; it is very similar. Why are they taking? Establishing a good working relationship is important. What kind of time at home can they put in for learning? What goals do they have? Are there particular styles of music the student wants to learn.

I have a Bachelor of Arts and Education with a concentration in Voice, Piano and Drama and A Master's Degree in Christian Education  I have taught Keyboard, Piano, Voice, Chorus and Drama in private and public schools and Private lessons.  I have had the opportunity to work with the Education and Film Making and to sing at Disney.  I performed for 5 years in The Orando Opera Company and got to tour in Europe.  I have been the Director and Teacher of Creative Ars Ministries where I have taught Drama and produced many student productions.

It depends on the level of difficculty and the length of the lesson.  Basically a half hour lesson is $20 and up
