About this pro

I put together a curriculum that serves the student. Fundamentally all the students have the same basic study/work plan but each student has a program tailored towards them and their needs to develop into fine musicians. All of this while still having fun!

Making connections with people through music and showing them how to tap their potential to achieve anything through music! Also giving people a healthy outlet to help them deal with life as it comes hard to a lot of people!

Ty taught my children music that they actually wanted to learn and practice. They were excited to show off everything they worked on each week. He also made sure to take his time and was very patient with each of my children. His schedule was flexible and he was extremely easy to work with.

Tyree is an amazing piano instructor for my 8 year old son. Prior to this experience, my son was getting bored with piano and lessons were a struggle. Tyree has helped to revive his interest in piano! He tailors the musical selections to my son’s interests while also weaving in classical (foundational) exercises. Tyree is also patient and encouraging. I highly recommend him!

We're still in the beginning, but so far, Mr. Tyree has been great. He's shown up on time each week and engages my (very shy) daughter during the lesson. He also brings an element of fun by incorporating music she hears on the radio into her lessons.

Tyree does an incredible job of meeting the student where they are. Hes able to tune in on what the student needs and take it from there. He makes lessons fun and personable. I enjoy his positive attitude and his reminders to HAVE FUN!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

1)We get rid of the nerves!

2)The layout of the instrument and the fundamental technique to begin playing!

3)Notes to Scales, Scales to Chords, Chords to Songs for Piano!

Rhythms to Rudiments,Licks, and Grooves then Grooves and Licks lto Songs for Percussion!

(reading music is a must for percussion and piano lessons)

4)We have FUN!

In all of this, we work individual things specific to the student's musical interests and reference points! Of course, the parents have a say so in this as well!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been teaching music since 2012 and been playing music my whole life!

My formal education came from high school and college(Norfolk State University) where I started out as a Music Education Major and then, switched over to the Media, Recording, and Performance side of things. Currently have a degree in Audio Production and Engineering(Full Sail University) and currently finishing a degree in music composition for film,tv, and video games!

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Very simply structure! The lessons are booked in blocks of 35 mins, 45 mins, or an hour! I recommend 1-2 lessons along with daily practice weekly to see desired results. No missed lessons! If we cannot reschedule the lesson for another day that week or double up the next week then I will record a video lesson for the student for them to continue their progression! You can view lesson pricing and packages in the photos section

How did you get started teaching?

My music theory professor(at the time) overheard me explaining a particularly difficult concept to someone using the piano and how I use it in my personal playing. He pulled me to the side and told me I had a bright future in private education and that I should learn more about the stage, studio, and performing these concepts in real time!

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with many types of students and all of them have ranged from beginner to advanced!

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Realizing that I have been in Richmond for 3 years and being able to have gotten myself back into doing music again as well as acquiring my LLC in August of 2018!(almost full time). Relocated back to Hampton recently and being able to continue to teach students in both locations!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

See if they are the right kind of teacher for you! While we all teach the same information, we all offer different perspectives and depths to these that may click with you a little different than the next person. A normal conversation can tell you if this person is right for you or not.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

All questions can be asked!
