My students are known for their artistic expression and love for the piano; it shows in the way that they play! Teaching impeccable technique from the first lesson is paramount to successful playing; I also focus on developing reading and rhythmic skills with strong fundamentals of theory.
I have a BA degree in English from Mary Baldwin College with a minor in music. I am a member of the Roanoke Valley Music Teachers Assoc, the National Music Teachers Assoc, the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and the National Federation of Music Clubs.
I want my students to love the piano as much as I do and to develop a passion for music that will enrich every aspect of their lives. Most of my students continue studying with me through their high school graduation, and many continue in college as music majors or minors. The relationship I develop with my students is as important to me as their learning to play and is part of the high standard of excellence I set in my studio. I have been teaching piano performance and music theory for 40 years, and it continues to be the most rewarding career I could ever have chosen.
