Galaxy Music is a center for enriching lives through methodical music education, while also providing a comfortable environment to practice music.
Learning music at Galaxy Music starts with a classical based training. We believe that learning classical music is a necessary foundation to branch off into other genres.
"Music meanders into the depths of the soul and can answer the most profound questions of ones existence. We are meant to experience music and let melody and harmony make sense of the most undefinable feelings." - Founder, BJ Griffin

When a student first contacts Galaxy Music, they will be set up with a teacher by our Administrative Assistant, Hannah Eaton. She will coordinate schedules and set up a regular weekly meeting time that is best for both teacher and student.
After a student is connected with a teacher, weekly meetings are coordinated together by the teacher and student to maximize convenience for all parties involved. The teacher will then assess the level of their new student and recommend a learning plan and lesson book for the student to follow (if they do not already have a lesson book they are currently learning from).
*We do not provide instruments or lesson books, these must be obtained by the student.
All of our teachers have a degree in either teaching or performing music. Many also actively perform around the Hampton Roads area. Our founder BJ Griffin and one of our piano teachers, Jason Brown, are both part of the band BJ Griffin and the Galaxy Groove; a band which is quickly gaining popularity as one of the must see live bands in Hampton Roads.
Our school operates on a tuition based system. We have three basic lesson plans:
- 30 min weekly lessons: $140/mo ($35 per lesson)
- 45 min weekly lessons: $180/mo ($45 per lesson)
- 60 min weekly lessons: $220/mo ($55 per lesson)
Students pay their tuition at the beginning of the month and that covers all lessons recieved that month. Students are guaranteed one lesson a week, but may schedule up to 2 extra lessons at no charge within a 5 month period (contingent upon teacher availability).
We've found that this system relieves the stress and worry of a pay-by-lesson system for both teacher and student. If any lessons are missed by the fault of the teacher or school closing, they are guaranteed to be made up. There are no refunds issued in the event of a missed lesson.
"As a musician and music teacher, I can think of no better way to spread the joy of learning and playing music than to foster a community in which to do so. Music meanders into the depths of the soul and can answer the most profound questions of ones existence. There is no point in figuring out why or how because we are not supposed to understand. We are meant to experience music and let melody and harmony make sense of the most undefinable feelings. I take pride in experiencing this in many ways; teaching, performing, and receiving music. For me, there is no greater love." - Founder, BJ Griffin
We accept all ages of students. Many of our teachers have experience working with students as young as 3 years old. However we have also had several adult students attend our school. Experience levels of our students vary from beginner to very advanced.
