About this pro

Sarah Jolk Music offers a unique "whole person" approach to music lessons.  I'm interested in who YOU are as an artist and what your goals are and we will cater your lessons to that. I offers in-person and Skype/Facetime lessons. My students have enjoyed the opportunity to have various combinations of voice, songwriting, guitar, piano, and composition.  I have a Masters in Leadership and I use that education to coach students through the issues that every performer faces-such as stage fright, anxiety, self-coaching through challenges and more.  My students love this unique and highly beneficial approach.

Professionally I am also a Worship Leader at my own church and I often travel to different churches offering guest worship leading as well as consulting and leadership coaching.  You will notice my personal website sarahjolkmusic.com is geared towards those clients but you will also see several examples of my singing and playing.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

I LOVE empowering my students.  My consulting business is actually called EmpowerMe Artistic Development.  I really enjoy working with a wide variety of ages from 6yrs to 64!  There's no better feeling than when a student "gets it" and we have those moments of triumph, especially if it's been a challenge to get there.

Sarah has been able to make a connection with my son on a more personal level to help him spark an interest in his beginning musical studies. She meets her students at their levels and helps challenge them adequately to get them too the next level. As a busy mom with children in multiple activities her friendly and welcoming demeanor is always appreciated!

I took lessons as a kid and hated it however I decided to take lessons again as an adult and Sarah has made the process so much more enjoyable. Lessons are always something to look forward to and she has helped me grow so much as a musician and a person

Sarah is kind, patient, flexible and so talented! She brings out the very best in my daughter and the weekly lesson with Sarah is a highlight for her!

Timely, experienced, patient. I have some background with piano and wanted refresher lessons. Sarah took the time to go over the things I’d forgotten, and moved quickly over the ones I remembered. Very professional.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I offer a complimentary interview so that everyone can see if it's a good fit.  All students begin with an evaluation of their current ability but it's not an audition-this is just a simple evaluation so that I can help them the best.  Guitar and Piano students use a book series and, based on ability, will add a song or two they really want to learn into the lessons.  Vocal students will start with learning singing basics such as breathing, tonal quality, warm-ups and more.  Then they will begin using as tools a mix of songs they want to learn and songs I think will work specific areas of their voices.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have combined 9 years of professional piano training and over 14 years of professional experience playing piano as a Worship Leader in various styles.  This experience has also taught me how to use synth and different tracks and patches-which anyone in a band setting could find helpful.

My vocal training is a mix of professional voice lessons, many choirs, both ones I participated in and a few that I've personally lead.  I received professional A Capella and Jazz/Blues voice training in high school and have been singing professionally as a Worship Leader for over 20 years.  As a Worship Leader I have sung in many different styles not just contemporary music.  I was also a part of two professional Gospel Choirs while I lived in North Carolina for several years.

Due to the fact that I was doing so much with music outside of school for college I received a B.A. in Communication with a minor in Writing (for songwriting).  While there I took music theory, was in the women's choir, and was in a Gospel Choir at the school.

My Masters is in Christian Leadership from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC.

I have been teaching vocal/music workshops or private lessons for around 12years.
