About
I play & teach over 10 instruments as well as Voice, music theory, composition/arranging, ear training, improvisation, intro to DAW& more. I carry a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and have over 30 years of playing, performing & recording experience and over 20 years of teaching experience. I’m a life long learner and I strongly believe that continued education and training are essential to being a quality educator and skilled musician!
Not only have I been playing music since 9 years of age, I’ve played/performed in many styles of ensembles, concert bands, marching bands, pep bands, brass ensembles, orchestras, blues/jazz, rock, funk/soul, R&B, rock, gospel, worship team, church events, singer songwriter, pop, Oaxacan/banda, mariachi, calypso/Caribbean, cover bands, reggae, Romanian folk music/Balkan, circus band, civic band, and more!!!! I am a performing and recording artist, working with different groups and projects and have opened for and played with well known artists and bands. I love performing, however teaching is currently my main focus.
I have been singing for many years, however as a student, you generally have to choose instrumental or vocal music, so I always participated in instrumental music as well as sports. Right after starting College, I got more interested and serious about finding and developing my voice, so I joined the University choir and attended my first private voice lessons. During this time, I founded a touring Funk&Soul Band, where I was the principal Trombonist, sung background vocals, a few lead vocals and transcribed/arranged all of the horn section charts. I’ve taken many vocal lessons with a variety of teachers and have sung in numerous musical settings with different bands and different t styles of music, since then. I continue learning, developing my techniques, practicing and growing as an artist, since this is a lifelong journey for me!
As well as running my own music business, I contract with an online company that connects students with highly qualified and experienced music teachers. I’m also a Substitute Teacher with two School Districts, so I have a background check annually for students safety and peace of mind.
I offer a comprehensive, classical foundation that equips students with the technical and musical tools to grow confidently, while being able to explore and a wide range of musical styles. My approach is flexible and student-centered. I design lessons plans and materials around each individual students goals, interests, and learning style, creating a personalized experience that keeps students engaged and motivated. We work together to create lessons that are meaningful and enjoyable for the student and continue to measure progress through attainable goals.
Each lesson is uniquely tailored. I believe in "boutiquing" my instruction to meet the needs of each student, whether they’re pursuing classical repertoire, contemporary styles, and/or developing specific skills. I strive to foster a supportive learning environment and remain available between lessons for guidance and encouragement. I found things that were lacking in my own experience taking lessons, therefore I have been very thoughtful and methodical about my ability to incorporate practice materials on top of comprehensive lesson plans that are beneficial for each student, while supporting them in the techniques and skills they need in order to be a successful and healthy musician!
I’m passionate about working with students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, and I find great fulfillment in sharing my knowledge and love of music. I strive to guide and inspire my students by encouraging curiosity, self-expression, and personal growth. My teaching approach nurtures a safe, supportive environment where students feel empowered to take healthy risks, build confidence, and explore their full potential.
To reinforce learning, I create engaging practice materials such as custom audio recordings, videos, worksheets, sheet music and more! These resources fill a gap I personally experienced during my own studies and help students stay inspired and productive outside of lesson time.
I aim to help students develop resilience through challenges, learn from mistakes, and find joy in the learning process. Beyond teaching music, I focus on building meaningful relationships and fostering a sense of accomplishment, creativity, and connection in each student’s journey.
I also work with students of varying abilities, including those with disabilities. I believe a great educator must be both adaptive and compassionate—capable of meeting students where they are and helping them thrive.
I’m professional, engaging, positive, flexible, fun and I’m confident that you will exceed your expectations and have fun working with me as we explore and grow your instrumental and/or vocal, musical abilities, while enjoying the process!
