About

Have you or your child recently purchased a new guitar but have no idea how to get started? Are YouTube lesson-based videos too slow or fast in helping you play the songs you want? ...have you broken a string or are out of tune once again? Is Internet guitar tab too frustrating to get through? Are you tired of players who just want to show off when you ask them a basic question?

I've been playing guitar independently as a hobby since 2000 and have destroyed plenty of instruments (as well as other equipment) in my pursuit of the love of music! I've had to battle through the learning process by dealing with the above problems and much more. My day job is as a 12th grade US/WA Government/World History teacher with Everett Public Schools (in my 7th year of teaching - I have a B.A. in History with teaching certifications in Social Studies & Special Education - learning & emotional disabilities) and, in addition to teaching my students social studies content, I've had the opportunity to work with some of them with guitar skills.

One of the most common experiences people have when learning the guitar for the first time is fear in feeling stupid for asking basic questions. My passion is to set you up to be the best guitar player you can possibly be - to set you on a lifelong journey of music-making. Here are some areas where I can help:

*Electric/Acoustic guitar

*Guitar care/maintenance - string changing, humidifying tips, other equipment insight, buying suggestions when dealing with aggressive, intimidating guitar salesmen

*Tuning (including alternate tunings, advantages/disadvantages with each)

*Chords - open, barre, other

*Scales: Blues, other (play a basic solo over a set of chords)

*Fingerstyle: Basic hand positioning

*Historical development of rock guitar (bands and their technique.. how one influenced the other to lead us to where we are today)

Looking forward to hearing from you!!
