Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have one book I use to teach a new student their notes. We work a lot on the art of playing beautifully as well. Then we dive right in to playing real composer's music. Many famous composers wrote for their own students. So after only a few months you could be playing Mozart, Schumann or even Bach. There are some great new composers who wrote delightful pieces for beginners.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I went to The Master's College in California and majored in piano pedagogy. Since leaving college I have always been involved in music somehow. I lead the children's choir at my church, taught music at Providence Classical Christian School for 9 years. I've lead worship at my church for 12 years, and played in the band many years before that. I play for weddings and other social events and have been teaching piano privately for almost 20 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

60 minute lessons - $210
How did you get started teaching?
I got married young and had my children young. When they were all in school I took a year long refresher class on teaching piano then started taking on piano students. It's been very fulfilling.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with children as young as 5 to retired people wanting to pick up a new skill. I take transfer students and ones who are ready for more advanced training. I prefer kids who really want to learn, not just take lessons because their parents make them 😜
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The last concert I got to go to before the Covid response was an amazing Bach symphony and choir at Benaroya Hall in March. The level of excitement in the director was contagious. He turned around and sang a good part of the concert too! Excitement is contagious. I love playing the piano and passing that love on to my students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The student should be looking for a teacher with lots of experience and a good knowledge base of the piano and theory and technique. The teacher should also be continuing his/her education and be active in playing themselves. They should know a variety of styles and not just stick with one method book series that could last for years.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Have a reason for taking lessons. Know that it is a time commitment to learn the piano. They need to know that to improve they will need to practice 4 to 5 days a week- just like gymnastics, or basketball, or any other skill. It doesn't have to be long practiced, just targeted and focused.
