Piano Or Trumpet Lessons!
About
I have been playing piano since I've been a young child and never stopped! My piano background is more traditional, "classical" based but I know and teach Jazz music theory on piano.
I love and teach all types of music, ages 5 and up, beginner to intermediate. Any music that you like can be the focus of our lessons. Or we can start with a beginner method and grow from there!
I also teach trumpet with a background in jazz and am lucky enough to have had excellent teachers along with a degree in music. I also have recorded on trumpet with my music project.
I have 30 years of experience on both instruments and welcome anyone from beginners who can't read music to those that want to work on their improvisation!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by asking the student if they have any kind of experience with piano and proceed from their. If the student does have experience I gently ask them to play and share what they know. The general experience level and age of the student will determine where to go from there ranging from the basic fundamentals of music to working on a substantial piece of solo music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I taught lessons in Chicago for 2 music schools from 2014-2019. Before that I attended Northern Illinois University as a music major and then recieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Studies from Columbia College University.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students 5 to adult. My students have studied everything from major scales to pop music. I can help you transcribe a learn to play a favorite song as well as show you the proper technique to do it.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about what they specific music they want to learn. If you can't think of any, that's ok to!
Students should also consider if they have the proper equipment and space to practice. An acoustic piano is great, but so are electronic keyboards as long as they are full size with weighted keys.
If you don't own a piano you may be able to get access to a piano by asking a nearby school or church if you can use theirs to practice on. If you live near a college with a music program chances are they have practice rooms with pianos they may let you use.
Trumpet students will need their own trumpet and space in their home to practice consistently at. Valve oil for the trumpet is necessary as well. Mutes for the trumpet and a music stand are optional.
