About

I believe that good instruction teaches not only a skill, but the ability to grow that skill even after the lesson is over. I have played the accoustic guitar for over ten years, with a mixture of taking lessons and self teaching. I know how to break things down and make them understandable and easy to remember. I also play the electric guitar, classical guitar and the piano, giving me a diverse viewpoint of musical theory.

I particularly enjoy introducing guitar to someone who has never played. Watching them grow and seeing the joy that guitar can bring to someone is special to me, and I relate to it heavily. Being able to extend the world of guitar to new people and be one of the reasons someone got into it is very meanigful to me.

Frequently asked questions

I like to have a session to assess a new student's skill level and comfort, as well as determin what they want out of the lessons so that I can tailor my lessons to be the most rewarding to each individual student. Whether you want to learn basic theory or fun new fingerpicking techniques, I want to give you the tools to achieve your personal goals.

I have over ten years of experience with accoustic and electric guitars; five years of proper lessons and over five years of self-teaching. I also took several years of piano and piano theory, which transfers nicely over to guitar theory. Finally, I have taken voice lessons and sang in a choir for 3 years, including accompanying the Olympia Chamber Orchestra in concert at Saint John's Episcopal Church.

I charge a fixed rate of $30 for a half hour and $50 for an hour.

The first lesson is a free half hour session to assess your skill level, what it is you want from the lessons, and if I am a good fit for you.

I also restring and tune guitars for the cost of the new strings + $20

I accept cash, checks, and Venmo transactions.

I started teaching when I was fifteen, because my friends asked if I would give them proper lessons. After agreeing to it, I realized I had an affinity for it and have been teaching since then.

I have worked with a wide range of students, from students who have never played a guitar before to students that play in a band. Old or young, the only consistent requirement for my students is that they want to learn.

I enjoy seeing past students thrive. I teach a number of skills, not just guitar, so seeing any student of mine thrive and enjoy what they do is incredibly rewarding.

Find a teacher that is honest and down to earth. The teachers that do this because they love music will give you the most growth.

"Is this a need or a want?"
Understanding the difference is important, and students often must check off a few 'needs' before they can check off the "want." Having the discipline to build the foundation will make the reward much higher quality and last longer.
