My teaching approach: Whatever style you may be interested in playing, classical guitar technique will benefit you, so that's how I teach. Plan also on learning to read music, if you don't already. My Masters is in Composition, so I can offer a foundation in Theory from which you may develop as an improviser, arranger or composer. I enjoy teaching children (certified in WA and MA) and specialize in Liturgical guitar.
My influences are: Rubinstein, Segovia, Bruces Cockburn & Springsteen, Bream, Metheny, Montgomery, Silvio, et al
My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio
Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas: Home studio in N Tacoma
Guitar Techniques: Recording and Production, Song Writing, Scales and Exercises, Music Theory, Reading Music, Jamming Skills, Improvisation, Performance, Vocal Accompaniment, Fingerstyle, Rhythm guitar, Lead guitar
Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: We'll work on improving something you're already comfortable playing.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: If your focus is on performing a notated piece, I first make sure your fingering choices make for the smoothest possible transitions. Then I assist you in becoming less concerned with your fingers and more with what the music is asking for. If your focus is on improvisation, we work on theory and jam.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: Consistant about practicing, excited to learn new music and new ways of approaching it
