Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Instruction:
The core of my teaching philosophy is that music should be fun. When we can truly immerse ourselves in the experience of music; listening to recordings, playing an instrument, singing, tapping rhythms, or even just thinking about music; becoming a better musician is unavoidable. Learning how to practice efficiently and effectively only accelerates the process.
Whether you're already an advanced player or just getting started, I regard each student as an individual. No two people have the same needs or aspirations so I don't use a set curriculum. Early lessons are largely a chance for us to find a flow and for me to identify which issues to work on first.
Students are free to choose any style or genre of music to focus on. I have a huge file of materials and transcriptions from various genres to draw from.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Experienced in a wide range of musical settings and drawing from diverse influences, Peter is noted for his versatile and imaginative playing style. Since arriving in the Northwest he has performed in most of the area's great venues. He keeps a busy teaching schedule and is active with both the Seattle Classic Guitar Society and the Seattle Jazz Guitar Society in promoting community awareness and involvement.
